NetNames Light displays in-range devices & tests wireless AppleTalk communication - verifying your connections.
To test Photonics adapter operation, tap the “Photonics Setup” button. Next, tap the “Start” button on the following screen while in range of an access point or wireless Macintosh computer. Receiving good packets means your adapter is properly attached, in range, and operating.
To view devices and test range, return to the initial screen and tap a device type button. Then tap on a specific device’s name in the displayed list, and tap Select. NetNames will then exchange test packets with the chosen device. Move about the room while testing to determine your maximum range. Typical in-room range is 30’.
If NetNames can not find any devices, check that all adapters are connected and have power.
• Photonics adapters’ range is 30 feet in typical rooms - more if the adapters are aimed, less in large rooms or open areas lacking walls for reflection.
• Photonics adapters should not be aimed directly at each other unless over 15’ apart.
• Direct sunlight on your Photonics adapter can interrupt communication.
• Make sure that LocalTalk is the selected network connection in Macintosh computers equipped with Photonics Cooperative adapters.
• The Newton Connection Kit is only visible when “Waiting for the Newton”.
• Some devices, though visible, are not usable by a Newton.

The idea for NetNames came from John Bennison's "Who's On" cdev.
The 'All Names' buttons returns a name for each active socket on every AppleTalk device. This is a 'feature' of the Newton Chooser. To fix it would mean writing my own chooser. It is on my 'to-do' list but not this week.
Thanks for all the suggestions via eMail. I don't know when I'll have time for some major feature creeping on NetNames. Keep the ideas coming and who knows, one day...
